masterpiece
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10)
A little encouragement for you today. For all of us. We need it from time to time. Really – we all need it more often than that, but sometimes we are too prideful to admit it. At least I am.
There is so much wrapped up in this little verse, but the word masterpiece sticks out. I have written on God’s love for us, Christ’s sacrifice, and many other beautiful things that God has done or desires for our lives. Let’s just pause a moment though and reflect what Paul is saying here. We are God’s masterpiece. Not just another creation, not that clay pot you made in 6th grade that your parents said they loved but you knew was terrible, and not a shot that hit the target but missed the center. We are a masterpiece. A bullseye. Not just any bullseye either. We are God’s bullseye.
If you feel like you are just a bit off center today. Stop. Read the verse again, and know you are a masterpiece. A work of art. A painting that was begun long ago with every brush stroke carefully placed. That feeling of being off center is not you, it’s this fallen world we live in. Fortunately, just like the rest of the verse says, we have Jesus for that. Regardless of how we feel from day to day, God created us as a bullseye, and Christ through His sacrifice keeps us there, no matter what we do.
Father – Thank you for creating me. Thank you for considering me as a masterpiece. I don’t feel like I am, but thanks to you, Lord, I guess I am. Strengthen my mind and my body to walk like I am today. Give me the confidence to know I am your masterpiece and I can live it out to do the good things you planned long ago. I turn my eyes to you and off the distractions around me to follow you. I take comfort in your will and your plan. In Jesus’ Name – Amen.
